About the Park

Utría National Natural Park protects a sheltered Pacific inlet where tropical rainforest, mangroves, rocky shores, beaches, coral formations, and open sea meet. The park is open, but it is not an independent boat stop: every visitor must enter with an authorized guide or heritage interpreter, complete registration and induction, and confirm capacity, transport, insurance, fees, and weather before departure.

Access
Fly to Bahía Solano or Nuquí, then arrange the confirmed local transfer for your chosen sector. From Bahía Solano, travel 30 to 40 minutes by road to El Valle and continue with a confirmed local boat operator; the alternative El Valle-Utría rainforest trail takes about three hours and requires an authorized local guide or interpreter.
Before booking
Contact the park before payment to verify capacity and dates. A formal reservation is not currently mandatory, but your provider must take you through official park registration and induction rather than stopping only at Playa Blanca; also confirm the guide or interpreter, accident insurance, entry fee, transport, meals, and included activities.
Conditions and whales
Expect heavy rain, changing tides, rough sea, and possible trail restrictions; use rubber boots and keep a weather buffer. The official 2026 whale season runs from July through October, but sightings are never guaranteed and the park does not organize whale-watching departures, so verify the provider and responsible-viewing plan.
